There are various options for treating sagging skin. Let’s review the differences between Quantum and other treatments.
HIFU (HIFU: high-intensity focused ultrasound) is a popular non-surgical lifting treatment, like Quantum. HIFU concentrates ultrasound energy in the deeper layers of the skin, specifically the SMAS fascial layer, causing thermal coagulation to produce a lifting effect.
By contrast, Quantum uses RF (radiofrequency) and acts on the FSN (fibrous septae), which is the difference between the two. HIFU is generally considered capable of targeting deeper layers, but it also tends to be somewhat more painful.
Quantum primarily acts on relatively superficial layers, and some people report that it causes less pain. Which treatment is suitable depends on the condition of the sagging and the desired effects, so it is best to decide after consulting with a doctor.
A Thread lift involves inserting medical threads beneath the skin and physically lifting the tissue to improve the facial contour. It is characterized by the fact that it does not involve an incision and is generally considered to have relatively short downtime. However, a Thread lift is mainly intended to provide “lifting,” and its ability to broadly tighten the skin itself and deeper tissues is limited.
Quantum uses radiofrequency energy to target the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and fascial layer, tightening the skin, fat, and supporting tissues from within. Therefore, in terms of fundamental improvement of sagging and contour tightening, there are many cases in which Quantum makes its effects easier to perceive than a Thread lift alone. However, because Quantum is an energy-based treatment, temporary swelling, redness, and a sensation of heat may occur as downtime after treatment.
A Thread lift is suitable for those who want a lifting effect while minimizing downtime, whereas Quantum is suitable for those who want to tighten the skin and muscle tissue and improve the quality of sagging itself. Because their characteristics differ, combining the two is considered to potentially provide synergistic effects from both lifting and tightening.
In practice, some clinics propose treatment plans that aim for a more natural and longer-lasting lifting effect by first tightening the underlying tissue with Quantum and then combining it with a Thread lift. It is important to choose the most suitable treatment according to the condition of your sagging skin and your preferences.
Facelift surgery is a surgical procedure that improves sagging by making an incision in the skin and removing excess skin. It provides the most significant effect and has the longest duration, but general anesthesia is required, and downtime is also prolonged, lasting 2–4 weeks. There is also a risk of scarring, so the psychological barrier to surgery may be considered high.
Non-surgical treatments such as Quantum do not provide as dramatic a change as facelift surgery. However, non-surgical treatment may be suitable for people who are reluctant to undergo surgery, cannot take time for downtime, or have only mild sagging.
