What Is InMode?
InMode is a next-generation radiofrequency device developed by an Israeli medical device manufacturer. This innovative device combines radiofrequency energy with thermal energy to provide multifaceted aesthetic treatment that targets areas from the skin's surface to its deeper layers.
InMode's greatest feature is that it heats the inside of the skin to an appropriate temperature, thereby promoting collagen and elastin production and improving skin firmness and elasticity. Unlike conventional radiofrequency treatments, InMode uses bipolar RF technology, enabling it to effectively target the dermis and subcutaneous tissue while minimizing the burden on the epidermis.
InMode has also attracted attention as a multifunctional medical device that provides not only radiofrequency treatment but also lifting, fat-dissolving, and skin-tightening effects.
Who Is InMode Recommended For and What Concerns Can It Address?
InMode is a versatile treatment that can address a wide range of skin concerns, but it is particularly recommended for the following people.
- People concerned about sagging along the facial contour or facial heaviness that has become more noticeable with age
- People concerned about sagging in the neck or under the chin
- People who feel that their skin firmness or elasticity has declined
- People seeking natural-looking rejuvenation without surgery
- People who are sensitive to pain or prefer a treatment involving as little pain as possible
InMode is designed with patient comfort in mind, which helps reduce pain during treatment relatively.
Features of InMode
InMode's defining feature is its unique technological approach. The treatment is divided into two types, FaceTite and BodyTite, each designed for different areas of the face and body.
InMode's greatest feature is its proprietary bipolar RF technology, which efficiently delivers RF energy from the skin's surface to its deeper layers. This technology makes it possible to concentrate thermal energy in the deeper layers of the skin while minimizing the burden on the skin's surface.
InMode is also equipped with a safety system that monitors skin temperature in real time. This helps prevent skin damage from excessive heat while making it possible to achieve optimal treatment effects.
Another feature of InMode is its high degree of customization. The energy intensity and irradiation time can be adjusted in detail according to each person's skin type and concerns, allowing treatment to be tailored to the individual.
Many people notice effects after a single InMode treatment, but many medical institutions recommend approximately 3–5 treatments to achieve a higher level of satisfaction. Results vary from person to person, but effects gradually appear after treatment, with maximum effects said to be achieved over 3–6 months.
Benefits of InMode
InMode treatment offers many benefits, including the following.
- Short downtime
- Long-lasting effects
- Highly versatile, with applications for the body as well as the face
- When performed by an appropriately qualified practitioner, the risk of serious side effects is relatively low
- Effects are relatively easy to notice even after a single treatment
Results vary from person to person, but these benefits are possible.
Drawbacks of InMode
Although InMode offers many benefits, it also has several drawbacks and points requiring caution.
- It is not completely pain-free
- The cost is relatively high compared with conventional aesthetic treatments
- Temporary redness or swelling may occur after treatment
- People who are pregnant, use a pacemaker, or have certain skin conditions may not be able to receive the treatment
As a basic premise, it is also important to understand that the same effects are not obtained by everyone. The way effects appear and how long they last vary from person to person depending on skin type, age, lifestyle, and other factors. In particular, when sagging is severe, surgical treatment may sometimes provide more noticeable improvement.
Differences from Radiofrequency Devices (Volnewmer, Origio, and Morpheus8)
InMode and other radiofrequency devices differ in their technical approaches and in the layers of skin they target.
InMode uses bipolar RF technology and is characterized by its ability to target a broad range of areas from the epidermis to the subcutaneous tissue. In contrast, Volnewmer uses monopolar RF technology and is designed to deliver a powerful approach to deeper tissues.
Origio uses multipolar RF technology. By delivering radiofrequency energy through multiple electrodes, it achieves a more even distribution of thermal energy. It is characterized by its ability to effectively target wrinkles and sagging while limiting the burden on the epidermis.
Morpheus8, on the other hand, uses a unique technology called fractional RF, which combines RF technology with microneedles. Since the fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy directly into the skin, more reliable effects may be expected, but recovery may take longer.
The effects for which each device is best suited also differ. InMode is effective for lifting and fat dissolution, while Volnewmer is strong in tightening deeper tissues. Origio involves relatively little pain and is considered effective for improving skin texture, while Morpheus8 can also address uneven skin surfaces such as acne scars and enlarged pores.
How Is It Different from HIFU?
Both InMode and HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) are noninvasive treatments that can provide a lifting effect. However, they differ significantly in the type of energy used and their mechanisms of action.
HIFU uses ultrasound energy to deliver thermal energy to pinpoint areas in the deeper layers of the skin. By focusing ultrasound on a single point, it can target a deep layer called the SMAS fascia while minimizing damage to the epidermis.
In contrast, InMode uses radiofrequency (RF) energy and gradually conducts heat from the skin's surface toward the deeper layers. Because of this difference, the two treatments have different effect profiles.
HIFU tends to provide a stronger immediate effect after a single treatment and a more noticeable lifting effect, but relatively many people experience pain. InMode, by contrast, acts evenly across a broader area of tissue, so overall improvement in skin quality and prevention of sagging may also be expected. In general, InMode is considered less painful than HIFU.
There is also a difference in the duration of effects. HIFU is said to last approximately 6 months to 1 year, whereas InMode may last approximately 1–2 years in some cases when combined with appropriate care.
Another major difference is that while HIFU is primarily specialized for lifting, InMode combines lifting with fat dissolution and skin-tightening effects.
