What is Malar Fat Removal?

Malar fat removal is a procedure that removes the subcutaneous fat (malar fat) located between the nasolabial folds and the nasojugal groove.
As we age, fat starts to accumulate over the nasolabial fold, making it appear deeper.
The procedure involves making a very small incision inside the mouth at the corner of the mouth, through which a suction tube is inserted to remove the fat. The incision is not visible from the outside, and there is no need to stitch the surface of the wound.

Recommended for the following people

  • Those who are concerned about sagging cheeks

  • Those who want to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds

  • Those who have started to look older

  • Those who are concerned about the fullness in their cheeks when they smile

  • Those who want to prevent future cheek sagging

POINT1

Accurate Procedure Marking and Technical Skill

Marking is done to determine the areas and range to be approached during the procedure. To ensure the success of the procedure, the area to be treated must be accurately assessed and marked. If this assessment is insufficient, it can lead to significant failures. Examples of procedure failures include hollowing or unevenness along the jawline, as well as uneven fat removal, all of which occur due to improper marking. At LIVELY CLINIC, we use the "4D Marking Simulation," which is different from traditional marking methods. Traditional marking simply involves writing down the areas to be suctioned. In contrast, 4D marking involves detailed annotations of suction areas, suction volume, fat layers to be suctioned, and areas to avoid. Furthermore, while traditional marking is done only once before the procedure, 4D marking allows for the review of the procedure through simulations before performing the actual procedure.

POINT2

Former Liposuction Specialist Clinic's
Skilled Doctors in Charge

Liposuction and fat removal around the cheeks require advanced technical skills and design abilities, so there are few clinics in Japan offering this procedure. At LIVELY CLINIC, doctors who have honed their skills by handling over 2,000 cases at a former liposuction specialist clinic are in charge.

POINT3

Diagnosis Based on Numerous Cases of Appropriate Indications

Fat removal varies in its suitability for each patient. Some people have facial thickness made up of fat, while others have it made up of skin thickness. The amount of fat to be removed must also be determined based on the overall balance of the face; otherwise, it could result in an excessively hollowed and aged appearance. At LIVELY CLINIC, we observe each patient's fat distribution and provide counseling and suggestions based on their suitability. Unnecessary suggestions will not be made.

What is Malar Fat Removal?

Malar fat removal is a facial contouring procedure where a cannula (a fat suction device) is inserted from inside the corner of the mouth to suction out fat.

Facial fat is often difficult to lose through dieting alone, and even if you succeed in slimming your face through hard work, there’s a high chance of rebounding once you stop dieting.

Since malar fat removal eliminates the fat cells themselves, it significantly reduces the likelihood of rebounding, allowing you to achieve a toned and slimmer face effortlessly.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Malar Fat Removal

Merits
  • The incision made at the corner of the mouth is only a few millimeters, making the scar less noticeable.
  • It can quickly address concerns like sagging or nasolabial folds.
  • Creates a youthful appearance.
Demerits
  • Excessive removal of malar fat may result in hollow cheeks.

Buccal Fat Removal

Achieve a Slimmer Facial Contour

Unlike malar fat, which is superficial and closer to the skin, buccal fat is located deeper, beneath the muscle layer. Both types of cheek fat have different effects when removed. For sagging cheeks that are difficult to address with malar fat removal alone, combining it with buccal fat removal can further reduce nasolabial folds and marionette lines, providing a more refined appearance.

Buccal Fat Removal

Jowl Fat Removal

Eliminate the Bulldog Look

Jowl fat refers to fat from the cheeks that sags down to the sides of the mouth, creating a bulky appearance. When it sags further, it can cause drooping around the mouth, leading to the "bulldog look." Removing jowl fat helps tighten and slim the facial contour, improving sagging and marionette lines for a sharper, more refined jawline.
