Lateral Canthoplasty

Lateral canthoplasty is a procedure where the outer corner of the eye is slightly incised to widen the horizontal width of the eyes, creating a larger, more open appearance.
This surgery is effective for those with a sharp or narrow eye shape, softening the overall expression and creating a more gentle look.

Recommended for the following people

  • Those who want to correct a sharp or drooping eye shape

  • Those who want to achieve a softer, more friendly eye appearance

  • Those who wish to enlarge their eyes

POINT1

Eyelid Surgery Over 5,000 Cases of Experience

At LIVELY CLINIC, doctors with over 5,000 cases of eyelid surgery experience will suggest results that maximize the patient's charm. For those who are unsure of what shape suits them, we provide counseling until they are fully satisfied. Experienced specialists will design a custom-made result just for you from a wide range of procedures.

POINT2

Invisible Scars

At LIVELY CLINIC, the outer corner eyelid surgery is performed with careful suturing, making scars less likely to remain and resulting in a natural and soft eye area. The scars from the outer corner eyelid surgery are not noticeable even without makeup, making it difficult for others to notice that the procedure has been done.

POINT3

Natural Results Tailored to the Shape of Your Eyes

Outer corner eyelid surgery not only removes the excess skin at the outer corner but also considers the shape of the eyes and overall facial balance. At our clinic, we provide careful consultations to understand your preferences and offer a natural design tailored to the individual balance of your eyes and face.

Lateral Canthoplasty Procedure

The skin and mucosa at the outer corner of the eye are incised horizontally, removing the surrounding skin and mucosa.
The area is then sutured vertically to extend the outer corner of the eye.
The primary goal of lateral canthoplasty is to widen the horizontal width of the eye, but it can also address droopy eyes and balance asymmetry between the eyes.
Additionally, combining it with medial canthoplasty can enhance the overall size of the eyes.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Incision Method

Merits
  • Balances the spacing between the eyes, creating a more defined facial structure
  • Widens the horizontal eye width, making the eyes appear larger
  • Achieves almond-shaped eyes
Demerits
  • May leave redness
  • Changes may be subtle

FAQ

Q

Is there a possibility of the results reversing after a lateral canthoplasty?

A

In rare cases, the skin at the outer corner of the eye may reattach and return to its original state. To prevent reversal, surgery can be performed with techniques like W-formation or by making a larger incision to account for possible changes.

Q

Who is not suitable for a lateral canthoplasty?

A

If, when pulling the skin at the outer corner of the eye, you can immediately see a pink part, there may not be enough tissue to cut, making the procedure less effective. If there is more visible sclera at the outer corner of the eye, lateral canthoplasty is suitable.

Q

Are there any procedures that can be done simultaneously with a lateral canthoplasty?

A

You can simultaneously undergo procedures like double eyelid surgery, glamorous lines, or medial canthoplasty. Double eyelid surgery and glamorous lines can increase the vertical length of the eye, while medial canthoplasty can increase the horizontal width.

Q

I'm unsure whether to choose lateral canthoplasty or medial canthoplasty. What are the differences?

A

Medial canthoplasty exposes a larger hidden area compared to lateral canthoplasty. If you want to naturally enlarge your eyes, lateral canthoplasty is recommended, but if you want to create a more dramatic change in the appearance of your eyes, medial canthoplasty is a better choice.
